Wildlife Partners

Budgets can be tight. Rehabilitation, veterinary care, food, housing…it all adds up.

If you would like to donate feathers/parts to the non-eagle feather repository, but don’t quite have the wiggle room in your budget to do so, you’re precisely why Kestrel Post exists. We want to help!

Frequently Asked Questions

Most frequent questions and answers

What facility requirements do we need to donate ?

The non-eagle feather repository can accept bird carcasses, feathers, and other parts from permitted sources; State and Federal Resource Agencies, Zoos, Animal Rehabilitators, Research Facilities, Universities, Falconers, and other permitted sources.  If you have the appropriate permitting, you’ll be able to donate to the non-eagle feather repository.

How do we sign up ?

We’re so glad you’re interested!  Simply fill out our form found below to hop on our facility partner waitlist.

Why is there a waitlist?

How does the postage payment work?

As a facility partner, every time you need to send a shipment, simply contact us!  We’ll create a label through FedEx to provide you with on-ice overnight shipping to the repository.  All using the funds we’ve raised to provide postage to you.  We only ask that if possible, please store potential donations until a larger shipment might be made to consolidate and reduce shipping costs.

Great question!  Our mission is to provide each wildlife facility partner with a year’s worth of postage funding which, depending on the size, roughly amounts to 15 packages (or $3000) a year for a medium/large wildlife facility.  We’ve included a section below to give us a rough estimate as to the size of your operation.  As we grow, we will inevitably add more partners to our list.  Hop on our waitlist to ensure your spot as our next partner!

What do we need to include with each shipment ?

For wildlife rehabilitation facilities, a copy of your FWS rehab permit needs to be submitted with your first shipment.  The non-eagle feather repository will, in turn, send you a copy of their FWS special purpose permit for your files.

What are priority species for the repository ?

Priority species include hawks; especially red-tails, red-shoulder, broad-winged, swainson’s ferruginous, rough-legged, northern goshawk, falcons; peregrine, prairie, also ospreys. Water-bird priority species would include the anhinga. Small bird priority species includes flickers, blue jays, yellow-warblers.  If you’re on our waitlist and have the means to store these species while you wait, we certainly encourage you to do so.
